For the next four months, I am trading in the little bit of free time I have to finally achieve my goal of becoming a yoga teacher and expand my own practice. Last night was the first class in which we were introduced to the history and principles of yoga. It was a very inspiring first class as myself and twelve other students described our journeys to get here. As we went around the room, each of us showed our vulnerability without hesitation as we described our struggles that brought us to the mat.
During our introductions we were also asked to share what we see ourselves doing once the course is completed. This simple question evoked some powerful feelings inside. Why was I here and how do I want to share my yoga teaching in the future? It didn't take long for me to come up with an answer. Being a professor, I am already passionate about teaching so I always assumed yoga teaching would be another outlet in which I am able to share my passion. However, what I felt in that moment was so much more than that. It was this overwhelming desire to help others. To truly guide those in need of help and healing into a place of peace within themselves. To me, yoga is not a way to burn calories but a way to release all the fear, anxiety, and mental chatter all the while building self-confidence and love within. So I set my intention for this training, to build my practice and skills so that I may start volunteering at various abuse and trauma centers around Denver in order to help those in need. And one day open up a healing center integrating nutrition, yoga, and more.
I will be journaling my experience as I go through training with hopes to inspire others and get more comfortable in expressing my vulnerability. So stay tuned...
"Your life is a sacred journey. It is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path... exactly where you are meant to be right now... And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love." ~ Caroline Adams
